DENNIS “LUMA”
“Luma”, as he is known on the Island, was born in Tela, a small seaside resort town on the mainland of Honduras, but spent his growing up years in Belize.
He started drawing at a very young age as a natural expression of who he was. With no money for paint, Luma would crush candy, seeds from the ground, even soft blue mineral rocks to make paint for his creative bent...and paint he did! His very first painting was of a North American Indian that he saw in a history book!
He began selling paintings at the age of 17 and used the beauty of creation as the inspiration for his works. He came to Roatan when he was 20 and immediately fell in love with the Island, where he has lived ever since...developing his skills and artistry. He says that the great beauty here still moves him and his art...and he especially enjoys painting the creations of God.
His largest painting to date is a 10x20 foot mural on the side wall of the Sonrise Church building in Sandy Bay. He also did the tropical scene at the entrance of Luna Beach, on the way to West Bay.
We are very privileged to present his work in our “Made in Roatan” gift shop.
